If you don’t backup your WordPress sites you are playing with fire. This is something you do not want to mess with, so please address this now! I know backing up is something you have on the “I’ll get to it” list but you better move it to the “Do it now” list.

Even if your hosting company backs up your sites, you should be making your own backup as well. It’s called redundancy and you can never have enough of it. Even the biggest and best of hosting companies can screw up your backups. So if your sites get blitzed, and your backup from your hosting company is damaged, then what?

Well, then you’re screwed.

At the very least, you can use a free WordPress plugin called BackWPup to backup and restore your WordPress sites. It’s very easy to use, so I thought I would create a couple of quick videos showing you how to backup and restore using BackWPup. And like I said it’s free! Sure there are other solutions out there and paid ones as well, but this plugin works great and it’s easy to use too.

Now, if you are very technical this tutorial won’t be of much use to you because this stuff is probably quite easy for you. This is for people like me. I know my way around FTP and WordPress but I don’t mess with databases or anything like that. Here are the steps:

Backing Up

OK here are the high level steps for backing up:

1. Install BackWPup to your domain

2. Create a new JOB within the plugin settings.

3. You can keep the defaults in most cases for WHAT to backup. You just need to define WHERE you want the backup to be saved. Then you need to enabled SCHEDULING if you want it to backup on a regular basis.

4. After you configure this new JOB, go to the JOB options and RUN the job you just created. This ensures that you have a backup now, and ensures that you configured it correctly. Check the location where the backup was supposed to be stored to confirm this.

Here is the video tutorial:

Restoring

Here are the high level steps for restoring:

1. Install WordPress to the domain you are restoring to

2. Install BackUPwp to the domain

3. Copy the backup file (zip file) from it’s location to your desktop

4. Then copy the file from your desktop to the PUBLIC_HTML folder of your domain

5. Locate the database file (SQL file) in the zipped backup file on your desktop. Extract this SQL file from your zipped backup file to your desktop, and then copy that file to the PUBLIC_HTML folder as well.

6. Go to your BackWPup plugin. Select TOOLS. It should show your file saved like this:

“SQL File to restore: /home/awesome/public_html/awesome_wrdp1.sql”

(In this case ‘awesome‘ refers to my domain. Yours will say something different)

7. Click RESTORE. Then be sure to delete the SQL file from the PUBLIC_HTML folder.

8. Open up cpanel, go to File Manager, and go to your PUBLIC_HTML folder. Find your zipped back and select it. Then click on EXTRACT.

9. You’re done!

10. Last thing – delete your backup zip file from the PUBLIC_HTML folder

Here is the video tutorial:

That’s it! Easy right? Now go right now and backup your most important WordPress site now!

After WordPress released version 3.1+ the WP admin bar appears for ALL logged in users while reading a post or page.

So if you’re like me you do not like that admin bar hanging around there and you may want to hide/remove it. There different ways to remove admin bar on WordPress.

Disable WordPress Admin Bar Per User Basis

This method disables the admin bar per user basis. For example, if you want to disable the admin bar for your or someone else account just Go to Users > Your Profile > Show Admin Bar and uncheck on “when viewing site”.

Plugins to Disable WordPress Admin Bar for ALL Users

A number of plugins have come up to delete/disable/hide/remove the WordPress admin bar as well as to modify and relocate it. You can use any the following WordPress plugin to disable/remove your admin bar.

Global Hide/Remove Admin Bar Plugin – Easily add a global option to hide/remove the new Admin bar in WP 3.1+. Adds an option to the Settings Menu to globally turn off the Admin Bar and/or turn off the user option in the profile to show admin bar.

Admin Bar Disabler – Disable the WP Admin Bar in 3.1+ entirely, or only for roles and capabilities which aren’t in the ‘whitelist’ or ‘blacklist’.

WP Custom Admin Bar – A really simple and easy to use plugin to help gain control of the new Admin Bar. This gives you options to change who sees the Admin Bar based on their user role, change or override the default styling and remove the Admin Bar altogether.

Admin Bar Minimiser –The Admin Bar Minimiser Plugin was written to help users keep the admin bar active but be able to minimise it at any time to make it less obtrusive.

Stick Admin Bar To Bottom – Annoyed by the new Admin Bar that is covering the top 28 pixels of your website, but you don’t want it completely gone? This plugin sticks the Admin Bar to the bottom of your screen!

Hide Admin Bar Search – Small plugin to hide the search box in the admin bar in both dashboard and site views.

Logged Out Admin Bar -Makes that admin bar always visible even for logged out users. Adds a login button when logged out, the shortlink also displays when available

Always Show Admin Bar – Always shows the admin bar if the user has previously logged in to the site. Non logged in users will see the bar in the normal place, complete with a login link.

Code to Disable Admin Bar Completely for Everyone

If you want to disable admin bar completely for everyone, you can add one of the following codes into the functions.php of your current theme:
remove_action(‘init’, ‘wp_admin_bar_init’);
OR
add_filter( ‘show_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’ );
I just updated a blog to WordPress 3.3 via the automatic update and I got the following error when I tried to go to WP Admin Dashboard…

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_rtl() in /home/perfect/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php on line 2102

But thank God, the solution is easy.

The problem is because the PopUp Domination plugin seems is not yet compatible with WP 3.3.

So here’s how to fix it:

Login to your Site Using FTP

Navigate to your WordPress Plugins File

Find the popup-domination file

Change the plugin name of it as this will Deactivate it

Go to your WP Dashboard

That’s it! Problem will be fixed!

This error prevents you from going to the administration dashboard of your blog.

UPDATE: POSSIBLE FIX FOUND!

Go into plugin’s folder and open the file, ‘popup-domination.php’.

Search for the line that says: wp_admin_css( ‘theme-editor’ ); and simply add 2 characters before it. Add // and it will look like this: // wp_admin_css( ‘theme-editor’ );

Save the file and re-upload it to its directory

Reactivate Popup Domination plugin in your dashboard area.

This comments out the line and tells WP to ignore it. This line is the one that is messing up WordPress. I’ve tried and works for me. You can try it too. I hope this helps!

OK – Before you download this amazing and crazy-simple WP Plugin that can literally increase your sales with existing traffic, let me first ask you a couple of questions just to understand the real power of this tool…

Q1: Did you ever see a one-time offer telling you: “You’ll Never See This Offer Again!”, then you bookmarked it and went back later to see if it was still there, and sure enough it was?!

How much trust did you have in that marketer on his next “special offer” or “one-time offer”? What about his credibility? Well, you don’t want your visitors feeling the same about you.

Q2: Do you want to run time-limited or one-time offers in a perpetual model?

For example, setup a page in a way to show your offer to visitor A once (or for a limited time only). If he tries to exit and return back the offer will no longer available for him, and automatically redirect him to another offer. And at the same time, visitor B will go through that same exact process.

Q3: Do you want to find ways to increase your conversions with your current traffic by creating a REAL sense of URGENCY inside your visitor’s minds?

Now you’re probably thinking, “So what? I can go back and expire the page manually, and set the redirection to a new URL.”.

Well not really!… if you want every single visitor to go through the same exact REAL one-time offer or limited time offer, that’s impossible to do manually.

Q4: Did you know that according to New ClickBank’s Vendor Guidelines you can get your clickbank account suspended for false scarcity? DANGEROUS

That’s why we created it!

Page Expiration Robot is a free sales-boosting WP plugin that allows you to easily setup one time offers or limited-time offers and schedule pages (and posts) to expire when you want — then redirect those visitors to a different URL – either with higher price or even waiting list!

We ourselves wanted an easy way to make REAL one-time offers and limited-time offers easily and quickly. We use it ourselves and make alot of money with it. You can too. And best of all, it’s free to use.

Here Are Just Some of The Amazing Features…

Turn WP pages (or posts) into one-time offers

Schedule expiration after certain amount of time

Redirect expired visitors to a different URL/offer

Create perpetual expirations for automation

Set visitors to expire either by IP or Cookie

Set fixed-time expiration for all visitors

Integrated with Live Countdown Timer (PRO)

Splashscreen on expiration to create ‘fear’ of loss (PRO)

Works with major themes including Optimize Press, etc.

Check the video below to see how it works. If you like it, you can download the free version here. It can really help you create REAL scarcity in your offers and REAL one-time offers as well.

Here’s How Page Expiration Robot Works:

As you can see, Page Expiration Robot’s philosophy is based on “Scarcity”. In case you don’t know what scarcity is, it’s a marketing and sales technique that gets people to take action right now by telling them that if they don’t, they will never have the same opportunity again. You see it everywhere, and you definitely saw it way before you got into Internet Marketing.

Remember when you were a kid watching those late night infomercials?

“Call Within The Next Three Minutes And You’ll Qualify For A Free Gift! But Be Sure To Call Within The Next Three Minutes Because Supplies Will Not Last!”

Or maybe you went in to buy a new car, and the salesman told you that that there is only one car left on the lot of that car you are looking to buy, and that someone else is coming later to look at the same car.

Makes you kind of want to buy it right then and there right? I mean you don’t want to miss out on the car you want!

In the online world you see it all the time. For example, a product will go up in price after a certain amount of time or after a certain amount have been sold. But does this really happen?

I mean, if you go back in a month, does the salespage still say the same stuff? Normally it does. And do you trust this marketer now? Probably not.

Gaining the trust of your visitors and customers is important, not only for new customers but to keep customers coming back to you over and over again…

And that’s why you need Page Expiration Robot WP plugin!

How You Can Use It To Increase Sales!

Here we created a quick inspirational list of possible scenarios on how you can use Page Expiration Robot and make the most out of it.

Conversion-Boosting Idea #1:

A secure wordpress, free from malware, where your visitors and customers can feel safe is vital to your online success. Unfortunately, the number of web hacking attacks has risen dramatically. WordPress security is an absolute must. If you do not protect your wordpress, hackers can gain access to your website, modify your web content and plugins, install malware and you can have your site banned from Google.

My Problem Can Be Your Lesson!

So I woke up the other day and saw message on one of my wordpress sites that looked like this:

I wasn’t sure if that was true or not so I immediately emailed my hosting admins to investigate this and meanwhile I clicked “Continue Unprotected” as I needed to go in my wp-admin to do some stuff.

Few hours later, here’s what reply I got from my hosting administrators:

WP Plugins To Protect WordPress From Hackers:

So first thing I did was to upgraded my WordPress blog and ALL the plugins to the latest version. Then I spend the next 4 hours researching to find the BEST plugins when it comes to make my wordpress blog run fast but most importantly to clean and keep my wordpress site protected from malware and hackers!

And here are the WordPress Plugins that solved this serious situation that was going on with my wordpress.

Antivirus Plugin for WordPress - AntiVirus for WordPress is a smart and effective solution to protect your blog against exploits and spam injections. AntiVirus protection for your blog.

WordPress Firewall Plugin - This WordPress plugin monitors web requests to identify and stop the most obvious attacks.

Secure WordPress - Secure WordPress beefs up the security of your WordPress installation by removing error information on login pages, adds index.html to plugin directories, hides the WordPress version and much more.

Login LockDown – records the IP address and timestamp of every failed login attempt. If more than a certain number of attempts are detected within a short period of time from the same IP range, then the login function is disabled for all requests from that range. This helps to prevent brute force password discovery.

ADDITIONAL SEURITY STEPS:

You need to delete the readme.html file at YOURWORDPRESSURL.com/readme.html

Add a blank index page to cover your folders at /wp-content/uploads/

Delete or rename the install.php file at /wp-admin/install.php

CREDITS: Special thanks to David Cavanagh for the above critical security steps!

WP Plugins To Optimize and Speed-Up WordPress:

WP Database Optimizer Plugin – This plugin allows for automated scheduled database optimization. The user can specify (in days) how long in between automated optimizations.

Quick Cache Plugin - Speed up your site ~ BIG Time! – If you care about the speed of your site, Quick Cache is a plugin that you absolutely MUST have installed.

Autoptimize Plugin – is a WordPress plugin that speeds up your website, and helps you save bandwidth.

WP Plugin To Automate Your WordPress Backups:

A great plugin that automatically makes a backup of your WordPress most important files and settings directly to Amazon S3 is Automatic WordPress Backup. In case you don’t know what’s Amazon S3, it is an extremely cheap storage service that is easy to set up and for pennies a month, you can make sure that your important files will be kept safe.
